Houston / Peptide care

An online visit still has Texas rules

Your location matters during the visit.

At this point

If an online doctor is based elsewhere, ask what allows that doctor to treat you while you are in Houston.

The assumption

The doctor's licence at home covers the visit here.

What the facts show

As of September 2026, doctors generally needed Texas's full medical licence for routine online care with a patient in the state.

One exception was for doctors with the older Texas out-of-state licence for online care.

They had to hold that licence on September 1, 2022, under the rule checked in September 2026.

Some occasional specialist consultations with a Texas-licensed doctor were also excepted, as of September 2026.

Ask the Texas Medical Board whether any exception named by the doctor applies to your visit.

How a first online visit can work

In September 2026, Texas allowed a first visit by live video or a review of relevant medical images or health records.

The health professional still had to meet the care standard for that medical problem.

As of September 2026, a first visit based on records needed medical images or health records, rather than just a form.

For a new patient, a phone call alone was not listed as a way to start care under the September 2026 law.

A phone call combined with reviewing medical images or health records was listed in that September 2026 law.

Phone-only care could still be allowed for an existing patient or a doctor covering for the usual one, as of September 2026.

Agree to the visit method

Texas required informed consent before online care, as of September 2026.

Informed consent means agreeing after the care and its terms have been explained.

Ask what the health professional will review and how to ask a question after the visit.
